BMW has one of the catalogs of motorcycles most prized by bikers. And like cars, the company’s foray into the electric field is still a bit shy. However, the automotive industry is always looking for ways to boost this market and has presented two new electrical concepts, which stand out; above all, a new electric motorcycle that puts on the table the good ideas that the company has about the future of the mobility.
BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster, as it is called, is an electric motorcycle concept that rescues part of some of the company’s most iconic designs in the form of a sports bike, without windbreaks and full side fairing, a kind of fusion between circuit sports. The bike uses a new electric concept of the company’s Boxer engine, merged with the new paradigm of electric mobility.
What would happen if we replaced the Boxer motor with an electric motor and the required battery?” The Vision Bike shows how we can retain the identity and iconic aspect of BMW Motorrad in a distinctive way while introducing a new and exciting type of driving a pleasure. – Edgar Heinrich, chief designer of BMW Motorrad.
Replacing what would have been the motor, now there is a battery vertically oriented and longitudinally seated. For cooling purposes, two side elements protrude like cooling ribs with integrated fans. As in the boxer engine of the BMW R 32, whose development was planned by Max Friz in 1923, the cooling elements are placed in the air stream to be more effective.
In the side view, the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster presents a highly dynamic gesture with a clear orientation of the front wheels. The front section lowers and the rear view short and high of a feeling of agility. Instead of the fuel tank, a flat and finely forged tubular structure traverses the body of the vehicle.
At a visual level, the BMW Vision DC Roadster is a radical and extremely aggressive machine, oriented mainly towards the front axle as any other current sport would do and this Roadster promises to be an experience. Throughout this prototype fluorescent elements have been included to highlight its presence in night driving.
At the moment it is just that, a concept, and it is unknown if we will see it on the streets one day. These concepts, although they do not reach the market, the truth is that they serve as a basis for more landed ideas that they do come true within the company’s sports portfolio.
