The developers at Firefox decided that the world is in a dire need of augmented and mixed reality goggles and they did exactly that. The company has named its new web browser Firefox Reality and it is meant for AR/ VR/ MR browsers. The project is in its early stage but the source code is already available on GitHub. Firefox Reality will be bringing the immersive web of mixed reality headsets. This new web browser can be seen as a standalone one and it’s designed for virtual and augmented reality headsets.

The developers have taken the existing Firefox web technologies and enhanced them with Servo which is an experimental web engine. With the help of Servo, the new Firefox Reality will be able to experiment with entirely new designs and technologies that will enable them to see and interact with the immensity of the web. This is an entirely new web platform.

Even though Firefox reality is still in its formative phases, the company has revealed that they will release regular weekly updates which will include details of the design process, from paper sketches to headset prototyping, sneak peeks of Firefox Reality running on a variety of pre-release headsets, new capabilities for artists, designers, and developers of immersive experiences, integration of Servo, along with experimental extensions to the WebGL graphics APIs, an experimental computer-vision pipeline using WebAssembly, device, gesture, and voice-interaction features.

Mozilla’s Sean White has also explained the outfit’s belief that digitalized realities are going to become widespread. So the making of an open browser will be a handy way to keep such web platforms accessible to everyone in the future. Firefox Reality is mainly designed for the next generation and it is meant as standalone VR and AR headsets.
