The 5G smartphones are supposed to be the next big thing, and according to the research done by TrendForce, it has become evident that even the development of the 5G smartphone has seen a sudden surge.

This expansion of the 5G smartphone market cannot exist in a vacuum, and as such the Chinese government has acted as a catalyst in commercializing the 5G smartphones. This has boosted the sales of most of Chinese smartphone manufacturers.

According to the report, the Chinese brands occupy about 75% of the global 5G smartphone market, and by the end of this year, it will exceed 200 million units. On top of the leading Chinese 5G smartphones is the brand Huawei with an estimated 74 million 5G smartphones.

Even after the scandal and legal prosecution by the US, the Chinese company still managed to float, and eventually ended up being at the top.

One of the main reasons behind this would be the fact that the Chinese smartphone market is still the largest in the world, and nothing has tainted its reputation in its own home soil. This soon may change as Apple is still to join the playfield. Taking Apple’s entrance into the 5G field, TrendForce has predicted that the California-based smartphone manufacturer will rank second to Huawei with about 70 million 5G units.

But as is the case with any iPhone, the pricing will certainly come into play here, and it may lower the sale units by a considerable margin. TrendForce says “5G functions will increase the production cost of smartphones accordingly. If Apple decides to directly reflect this added cost on the retail prices of the iPhone 12 series, it may lower its consumers’ willingness to purchase.”

In this race of 5G smartphones, one of the companies that also occupies everyone’s minds is certainly Samsung. Reportedly the company is not too far behind in this race with about 29 million 5G smartphones. The other slots are occupied by Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi – all of them are Chinese bred. Vivo is expected to ship 21 million 5G smartphones, Oppo is expected to ship 20 million and, and finally, Xiaomi is likely to ship 19 million 5G phones.
