Microsoft announced on the 15th of December that Microsoft Office 365 will very soon start to work on the M1 chip-based Mac devices. Some of the Microsoft apps that will be able to perform on the new MacBooks include Outlook, Word Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

In addition, these programs will continue to work on the old Mac devices that run on Intel processors.

M1 is an ARM-based processor that Apple developed, and the company expects that the new chip will be used in all Mac devices gradually over the next few years. This will eliminate the need to use Intel processors on the Apple devices.

The first MacBooks that featured the M1 are the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Mini. According to Apple, the M1 offers 3.5 times the CPU performance, up to 6 times the GPU performance, 15 times the machine-learning performance.

More importantly, the upgraded performance does not hamper the battery life at all, in fact, its battery life is twice the size of the previous generation of MacBooks.

Apple launched the Universal App Quick Start Program in June to assist developers in creating universal programs that will run smoothly both on the Intel-based MacBooks and the new M1 chipset based MacBooks.

Microsoft mentioned that the new Office programs that support the M1 version of the MacBooks are not only fast, but also come with its own aesthetic appeal, visually speaking.

Furthermore, Microsoft is working with Apple’s latest OS, the macOS Big Sur design to create related programs. As for the availability of these new programs, Microsoft mentioned that the users will continue to receive them through an update.

As for Microsoft Teams, it runs on the M1 MacBooks with the Rosetta 2 emulator and browser, but Microsoft is working on a universal program version of the same app.

The programs that have not yet been switched to the universal program, can still run on the M1 chipset with the help of the Rosetta 2 emulator.
