China’s first autonomous driving unicorn company, Momenta recently showcased its Mpilot autonomous parking and highway driving system during a test drive. Such technology will make parking much more accessible.

Earlier this year, the Chinese startup Momenta had announced the plans to launch fully automated driving solutions in the third quarter of 2019, and an autonomous driving solution designed for urban scenarios in the first half of next year.

How does the technology work? The technology makes parking convenient; drivers just need to drive up to their destination and exit the vehicle then using a smartphone app, connect the car then sit back and let the AI valet do the rest.

Mpilot works on high-definition maps and sensors running on NVIDIA DRIVE that give cars autonomous features by making their brains for deep-learning capacities. The sensors then start feeding into the map real-time data about the surroundings, with which the computer could make decisions on the road. This helps to identify available parking spaces and seamlessly navigate parking structures packed with cars and pedestrians.

The autonomous parking technology is apparent to solve the parking problem in China where more than 180 million vehicles face a shortage of 50 million parking spaces and globally 30 percent of vehicles are searching for parking at any time.

To retrieve the car, drivers need to summon it from their smartphone. The vehicle will navigate back to where the driver is waiting.
