Samsung has shared some of its ingenious innovation for integrating Bixby to empower individuals with visual impairments for Galaxy devices, and to mark the Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Samsung Newsroom has highlighted the top three features that have made Galaxy more accessible to people with disability.

Bixby Vision gives people the ability to gain insight regarding their surroundings using a smartphone’s camera. The new features rolled into Bixby Vision include Quick Reader, Scene Describer, and Color Detector.

The Quick Reader will come in handy for people with visual impairments since it can read the written texts in real-time. Bixby is also evolved enough to recognize over 1,000 common objects and items ranging from food items to locating cleaning products.

Scene Describer provides descriptions of any images, including captured scenes and downloaded pictures. This could help users identify potential obstacles when they are navigating their surroundings. The Color detector would help people in distinguishing between different colors. It makes use of the camera, and the feature informs the users of the color of the item in the frame.

For the improvement of Bixby Vision, Samsung heavily relies upon the user feedback, and this has given the smartphone manufacturing giant enough data to work on, and subsequently improving the Bixby Vision. “One of the problems we faced when testing the features with visually impaired users is that their way of experiencing the world is different from ours,” says Mikael Fodor, UX researcher at Samsung Research United Kingdom.

“Being able to observe how the features work in the hands of our users and in real-life situations allows us to understand the problems and make improvements scientifically.” Samsung apparently is one of the rarest companies that actually take into consideration the feedback, and suggestions that the developers at Samsung receive, making it an all-inclusive feature.

The latest features to the Bixby Vision includes high-contrast theme and Light Sensing on One UI 2. Samsung has also lauded the above mentioned two features as its finest. However, the company has also acknowledged the fact that creating an inclusive environment is also an ever-changing ongoing process, but the company will continue to build on suggestions and feedback from its users.
