Although it takes another week before consumers in the Netherlands to buy Samsung Galaxy Fold may now do rumors about a new Samsung foldable phone again. This time the rumors are not about a clamshell model, but about a mobile device with a double folding screen. Samsung Display is said to have two types in development, which differ in terms of both size and folding.
Foldable Samsung smartphone with 8-inch and 13-inch flexible screen
The rumors come from TheBell from South Korea, in a recent publication the site suggests that Samsung Display is currently developing a double folding screen. The information is said to come from Samsung employees, who have revealed that the company is developing a smartphone with an 8-inch and a 13-inch flexible screen.
The folding methods are typed as G-type and S-type. The Type-G display can fold inwards twice, such as the letter ‘G’. Type-S can also be folded twice, but here it is the two ends of the screen that can be folded in opposite directions.
The possibility to fold the device twice creates more application possibilities. Finally, an 8-inch and a 13-inch phone can be used perfectly as a tablet. An 8” foldable smartphone is even larger than the recently introduced iPad Mini. And with a 13″ display you have an even bigger screen at your disposal than with the iPad Pro.
The flexible folding screens are being developed this year by Samsung Display and may be used for the first time early next year. It could be a successor to the Galaxy Fold. Although it is more likely that Samsung allows both form factors to co-exist.
In that case, we get a Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 (probably with a larger front screen) and one or two totally new foldable smartphones. A double foldable display will require a lot from the battery, and the weight will certainly not decrease. It is possible that the price will be a little higher because of this, although we hope that the Fold 2 will be put on the market a little cheaper by that time.
