Samsung officially announced on Weibo that Samsung Exynos 1080 SoC will be unveiled on November 12. The Exynos 1080 SoC succeeds the Exynos 980 SoC that powers Samsung Galaxy A71, Galaxy A51, Vivo S6 5G, and several other Samsung smartphones. Samsung has not revealed the names of the smartphones that are to be powered by the new SoC.

The Exynos 1080 SoC is based on the 5nm process and has a built-in 5G modem. The South Korean tech giant will host an event for the official launch. As for the processor, it features ARM’s latest Cortex-A78 CPU cores as well as Mali-G78 GPU. The new processor is expected to feature two Cortex-A78 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores.

As mentioned before, it is a 5nm SoC, like the A14 Bionic found in iPhone 12 models, Huawei’s Kirin 9000 SoC that runs the Huawei Mate 40 series. From the features, it is abundantly clear that the Exynos 1080 will be a high-performance processor as it had outscored the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and the Snapdragon 865+ SoCs.

As mentioned above, Samsung has not revealed the list of smartphones that are supposed to run on the Exynos 1080. Samsung had mentioned that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 series will not be powered by the Exynos 1080. However, there has been some news that most mid-range Samsung smartphones are likely to feature the new processor.

These mid-ranging smartphones are likely to be introduced and launched sometime in 2021.

Additionally, Exynos 981 was also allegedly spotted, but Samsung has not confirmed it, and it is unclear which phones are to be run by it if any. However, this rumored processor could also be the one to power the 5G variants of the Galaxy A51 5G and the Galaxy A71 5G smartphones.
