Tesla CEO, Elon Musk announced that the company is bringing the Model S to the racetrack as well, and this decision has come as a shock to many people since this particular model is not that adept at track driving. More surprising than this were the sightings of the two Tesla Model S prototypes racing on the track.

Later Musk revealed that the two models seen on the racetrack were the test units of the Model S Plaid variant which is an upcoming version of the flagship sedan. One of the prototypes beats the Porsche Taycan Turbo’s lap record time of 7:42 with a time of 7:23.

The new Plaid units will obviously come with a few updates, among which that right away takes people’s attention was the wider stance and the front fascia with a larger air intake and a front splitter. However, the actual or even the final look of the Plaid Model S has been kept a secret.

It has been generally agreed upon that the upcoming Model S Plaid will offer everything best that Tesla has to offer while at the same time retaining its original obligation towards being a family car. On the other hand, Tesla CEO has confirmed that the rear-facing seats are making a comeback for this new model, allowing the vehicle to transport up to seven people on road trips.

The Tesla Model S Plaid was supposed to come out this year in the summer; however, since the pandemic outbreak has put a hold on everything, it goes without saying that the production and the release of this model will be pushed back for some time now. Musk had also pointed out that the new model will be priced higher than the current generation Model S, but will be more affordable than Tesla’s other contemporaries in this category such as the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S.
