Twitter, according to its latest blog, is working towards making Twitter more inclusive and accessible also for people with disabilities. Earlier this year, Twitter tested voice Tweets as a part of its new initiative. However, the first attempt also brought to the front just how much work Twitter still has to do with this.

To accelerate the development of new changes and to, ultimately, overcome the hurdles, Twitter has introduced two new teams – the Accessibility Center of Excellence and the Experience Accessibility Team.

Twitter Accessibility Center for Excellence

The Accessibility Center for Excellence will cut out the main work for them and will partner with various groups across their core business functions to make Twitter more accessible.

Twitter Experience Accessibility Team

The Experience Accessibility Team will work within the organization both new and existing features and products and will come up with new resources and tools to promote greater accessibility on the service.

Apart from the grouping of the two new teams, the social media platform is also working to add automated captions to audio and video by early 2021. To further strengthen their upcoming initiative, Twitter is gathering feedback from people with disabilities hoping that they could provide valuable insights into their new programs.

Twitter will continue to test related media features while the groundwork is being conducted. The updates regarding these new projects could be followed with the @TwitterA11y handle.

The blog also mentions that Twitter continues to engage with Tweets, partners, and people on this topic. This is the basic outline that Twitter has provided so far. Although it has come a long way to making it more inclusive to people with disabilities, the online platform still has a long way to go. @TwitterAble, @TwitterTogether, and @TwitterA11y are the accounts from Twitter that are releasing updates regarding the progress of the new initiative.
