After the successful launch of the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range vehicles and that of SpaceX Crew Dragon test-flight, the Chief Executive of Tesla Inc, Elon Musk, has declared the official unveiling of the Tesla Model Y crossover SUV on March 14, which is slated to take place at an event in Tesla’s Design Studio in Los Angeles.

Hinting at the specifications of the Model Y, Musk has said that the Model Y would be about 10% bigger than the Model 3, and the battery options are supposed to be similar to that used in the Model 3, but the size difference will have an impact on performance, and it’s thus the reason for the Model Y starting around a price of about $40,000 (approximate) and having a slightly lesser range.

Model Y, being an SUV, is about 10% bigger than Model 3, so will cost about 10% more & have slightly less range for same battery.- Elon Musk

At the event, detailed specifications of the Model Y will be provided. Moreover, test rides for the Model Y would also be included in the event, and given the high demand for the Model Y even before its official launch, this news is of course, quite exciting.

Tesla had previously hinted that the Model Y vehicles would be produced at the Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, China. However, in the company’s fourth quarter and 2018 full update, it was indicated that the first volume production of the Model Y would most probably take place at Gigafactory 1 in Sparks, Nevada.

Musk had claimed in a 2018 tweet that the Model Y would be revealed on March 15. However, that date would tally with the “Ides of March,” which is known as the day when Julius Ceaser was assassinated and is thus considered unfavorable. Maybe that is the reason for the launch being on March 14? Is it possible that the unveiling of the Model Y would be a major turning point in the history of Tesla?
