Waymo and Jaguar Teams Up to Carry Out the Robotaxi Program

Today, Waymo and Jaguar, both companies, officially announced that they have made a partnership to take the concept of the “self-driving car” one step ahead.

As per the deal, Waymo, Google’s former self-driving project will embrace near about 20,000 Jaguar I-pace vehicles to use in their forthcoming autonomous fleet. The news has been announced ahead of the New York International Auto Show, which will commence on March 30 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Waymo always had plans to start the robotaxi service all over the United States and this move carried by Waymo will definitely be a kick-starter in order to carry out the aforementioned plan by the company.

John Krafcik, the Chief Executive Officer of Waymo, has said previously that the testing of the vehicles will start this year, whereas incorporating these will get done from the year 2020.

The I-Pace is the first battery-powered SUV from Jaguar, the luxury vehicle brand of Jaguar Land Rover, the British car manufacturer. Tata Motor of India owns this one, and it was released at the beginning of this month.

The journey of Waymo started at Google back in the year 2009. Since then, Waymo has come a long way in the field of self-driving technology. Experts and critics always have raised concerns when it came to the Waymo robotaxi and now the recently occurred self-driving Uber accident is adding more fuel to it. So, at this point, we can just hope that the project goes in the right direction.
