Wiesmann returns to business with Project Gecko using BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s last car from 2009 – the limited edition GT MF5.
Though not much has been released by Wiesmann, the firm’s teaser confirms that it will be powered by a BMW-sourced twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
Despite the obvious evolutional approach in terms of design, the Project Gecko rides on a new lightweight front mid-engine platform with integrated tubular safety cell and a perfect 50:50 weight balance between the two axles.
Preliminary details suggest the new Wiesmann relies on a fully-independent, manually adjustable, double wishbone suspension system, as well as six-piston brake system for the front wheels with massive vented and drilled discs.
Judging by the CAD drawing in Wiesmann’s teaser video, Project Gecko’s chassis will come with a fully-independent, manually adjustable, double wishbone suspension system and a set of vented and drilled disc brakes, gripped by six-piston calipers. In addition, we expect it will feature carbon fiber body panels and a carbon fiber rear spoiler.
The new car will be assembled by hand at the original Wiesmann factory in Dülmen, Germany. Production is scheduled to start in 2020. Pricing hasn’t been announced publicly yet.
