The supply for chips in the tech market is reportedly at a critical level. Some reports claim that the delivery might also take up to 30 weeks if the chips are ordered from Qualcomm. Although there are various reasons why the delay occurs, most companies had to look for alternatives, especially because their manufacturing rate is being hampered due to the delay.

One of the main reasons behind this delay is the amount of unusual demand for the chipsets from Qualcomm. Since a few of the companies were already looking for alternatives, a few of the companies have decided to start the manufacturing process of their own custom chips. Two such companies who decided to take matters into their own hands are the Chinese tech giants Xiaomi and Oppo.

Both the companies, Xiaomi and Oppo, will develop their own custom chips with the help of Unisoc, as per the reports. Giving momentum to the initiative, a chip plan that will cater to the 5G Sub 6Hz network has already been submitted to Unisoc for production. The homemade chipsets, developed with the help of Unisoc, will feature on devices that are to be launched in late 2021 and early 2022.

This would be a huge responsibility for Unisoc since the company does not have experience with manufacturing high-performance chips for smartphone use. The majority of the chips developed by the company are mostly used for low base class devices such as the Nokia C10 and Nokia C3.

Last year in June, Oppo had hired a former MediaTek employee to develop its own chip as a contingency plan to avoid any probable operations slump in the future, and in the case, if the US decided to impose economic inequality on its products. Xiaomi has also re-released its own Serge C1 chip but it is only for image processing on the Mi MIX Fold device.
