Samsung is currently developing and working out the kinks for their already available Galaxy Fold smartphone. It has been rumored that the South Korean tech giant was on its way to including a new S Pen to the upcoming Galaxy Fold smartphones. Some reports even claim that Samsung Electronics has completed the development of S Pen input for Galaxy Fold smartphones and that the new folding smartphones with the S Pen will soon go on sale, probably in July-August.
The inclusion of S Pen would not be a light undertaking since the foldable smartphone has to offer a digitizer that will recognize the pen’s movement; moreover, the display also needs to be sturdy enough to withstand the pressure of the pen. Various reports have already contended that Samsung has been working on strengthening its display which only points to the possibility of including an S Pen in future Galaxy Fold smartphones.
Consequently, Samsung had filed for a patent application in Europe about a future Galaxy Z Fold smartphone that will be compatible with the S Pen. The patent details were published earlier this month, but the patent was originally filed in Q3 2020. The patent somewhat gives a clear indication that the Galaxy Fold smartphone will soon sport an S Pen; however, filing a patent never ensures that it will go manufacturing to be mass-produced.
The patent application indicates the existence of an S Pen; the patent application also unveils a temporary editing object box, a navigation editing tool, and a color tool. Although these details are described in the patent application, it is not clear yet if these will make it to the final development and manufacturing.
Samsung is yet to officially announce the launch of a Galaxy Fold with an S Pen.
