Last year, Tesla released the Autopilot feature in its 2018.42 software update, but it wasn’t the automatic navigation to perform the lane changes. Now Tesla began pushing a new ‘more seamless’ version of its Navigate on Autopilot feature without lane change confirmation to its more extensive fleet.

It has an Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving Capability, which will soon start to be shipped. It is an advanced driver-assistance system feature offered by Tesla that has lane centering, adaptive cruise control, self-parking, the and the ability to automatically change lanes with driver confirmation. It enables the car to be summoned to and from a garage or parking spot.

As an upgrade above and beyond Enhanced Autopilot’s capabilities, the company’s stated intent is to offer full self-driving at a future time, acknowledging that legal, regulatory, and technical hurdles must be overcome to achieve this goal.

Last month, Tesla pushed a new version of the feature to its early access program that didn’t require drivers to confirm the lane changes – bringing the driver assist system one step closer to autonomous highway driving.

The new updates also let you enable Navigate on Autopilot at the start of every trip. If you do, it’ll kick in every time you enter a navigation route and reach the highway. Currently, it’s only available in the US, but it should come to other countries once Tesla has received the all-clear.
