Xiaomi has filed a patent with the World Intellectual Patent Office for a smartphone with a periscope zoom. The patent filed with the WIPO shows all the major features of what is to be the upcoming smartphone. From the photos filed for the patent, it could clearly be seen that the smartphone will have an all-screen design, doing away with the thin bezel designs.
The smartphone is also supposed to feature a pop-up selfie camera. The name of the smartphone is supposed to be the Mi MIX 24 or the Mi 10, albeit the patent has not revealed the name of the smartphone.
The camera sensors will be lined up vertically, and the sensor at the top of the alignment looks like the periscope zoom lens. From what little could be gathered from the patent, the camera will protrude at the back a little. The display would not have the trendy notch or punch hole design. There is only space for the earpiece above the display screen. The selfie-camera will be hidden inside the smartphone and will be popped out when needed. The right edge of the smartphone houses the Volume and Power buttons and there is a SIM card tray on the left edge. The smartphone supports USB Type-C port.
If this next Xiaomi smartphone does feature periscope zoom, it would be the second smartphone with periscope zoom. Only OPPO Reno, 10x Zoom, features the periscope zoom. The Mi MIX 4 will apparently be the first smartphone with a 108MP camera. The periscope zoom is expected to deliver as much as 60x zoom, like the one featured by Huawei P30 Pro. However, the launch of the MI MIX 4 is supposed to be a long wait as Xiaomi has not officially mentioned anything about its release date.
