Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, had announced at the National Palace Museum’s press conference held on October 25, that Xiaomi MIX 3’s DXOMark comprehensive score had reached 103 points, making the camera setup one of the top three in the world.

As it turns out, Xiaomi MIX 3 main camera has the same configuration as that of Xiaomi MIX 2S, with 12MP+ 12MP rear zoom dual camera setup that supports optical zoom, four-axis optical image stabilization, portrait mode, and AI scene. The improved quality of the photos captured by Xiaomi MIX 3, however, can be accounted for by a deep software optimization and algorithm upgrade; which may, in turn, be extended to Xiaomi 8, Xiaomi MIX 2S.

Lei Jun had hitherto promised that the night mode camera feature of the Mi MIX 3 would be made available to other flagships. He has made good on that promise less than two weeks following the launch of the flagship; with the Xiaomi’s R&D team already pushing out the feature to four phones, Mi 8 Pro (announced yesterday), Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer, and the Mi MIX 2S; albeit in closed beta.

As of now, the feature is being pushed out as an update only to those running a closed beta version of MIUI 10; but it is expected to make its way into the devices of more consumers once it leaves closed beta. A screenshot has revealed that the update is a little over 300MB.

Coming to the features allowed by the Night Mode camera; users can now shoot clear images with as little noise as possible at night or in low-light areas.

Other features of the Mi MIX 3 camera include 960fps slow-motion recording; and 4K at 60fps video recording. Whether or not these extra features may be added to Xiaomi 8 and Xiaomi Mix 2S remains to be seen.
