At a press event in New Delhi today, Xiaomi introduced its new Xiaomi Redmi Y1 range, with a focus on the configuration of the front camera. The two Redmi Y1 models feature a 16-megapixel front camera combined with an LED flash. According to the company, the high-resolution front camera combined with this flash simulates the effects of natural lighting and captures sharper, better-quality self-portraits.
This new range Xiaomi Redmi Y1 also comes as a surprise since it runs MIUI 9 (in beta) and will receive a stable update in mid-November. Recall that this operating system has already landed on the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi Max 2, and among its innovations, we find the opening of applications faster, better notifications, split screen (as the stock version of Android), icon animations, and smart editing of pictures.
The company claims that the latest version of MIUI is as fast as Stock Android. MIUI, despite its popularity, has often been criticized for being a heavy UI layer affecting overall performance, especially on low-budget smartphones, so it will be necessary to see how it behaves in the new Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite.
