Back in October last year, Xiaomi unveiled its first premium smart door lock, the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock X which uses a self-made 3D structured light face recognition module. Aside from the 3D face unlock, the smart door also includes a dot projector, infrared light, RGB camera, light sensor, proximity sensor, and an infrared camera.
However, today, the Chinese tech giant is pleased to announce the successor of the smart door lock. The new smart door lock is named the Xiaomi Face Recognition Smart Door Lock and features 3D structured light facial recognition. Now, let’s take at some of the specifications and design of the new smart door lock.
Xiaomi Face Recognition Smart Door Lock Specs and Design
The Smart Door Lock X, which also uses 3D structured light facial recognition, and the earlier smart door lock are strikingly similar. On the inside of the Xiaomi Face Recognition Smart Door Lock was an AMOLED display as well.
Whereas, there are a few additional ways to unlock the smart door lock, that the previous smart lock didn’t have. Utilizing a key, password, fingerprint, or smartphone app is one of them. The smart door lock uses an aluminum alloy panel and weighs only 4g in total. Its measurements are 473 x 185 x 105 mm, and it can fit doors with a thickness of 40 to 120 mm.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that Xiaomi has not yet disclosed the complete specifications of the product, but they should be comparable to those of its predecessor. Likewise, a 6,250mAh battery powering the Smart Door Lock X can last for six months. The device can capture up to 50 user face elements at a height of between 1.3 and 2 meters.
Availability and Pricing
The pre-sale of the new smart door lock opens on September 20, with the first shipments due by September 28 in China. The Xiaomi face recognition smart door lock is on pre-sale at an introductory price of 1,999 yuan (~$286). Its original price is however 2,199 yuan (~$315).
