With the advent of New Year, on Jan 1st, 2021, Tesla also officially announced that it had started taking orders for its domestically produced Model Y vehicles at a lowered price. A January 4th Shanghai Securities News report states that since the price reduction of the Model Y, Tesla’s single store has attracted a huge number of consumers and there has been a surge in sales too.
Additionally, the person-in-charge in Tesla, China also revealed that Tesla has recently received a large number of orders in the Chinese market and their Model Y domestic models are expected to be delivered within January.
The soaring sales rate of Model Y is seen mainly due to the recent price reduction. As mentioned before, Tesla has lowered the price of the Model Y vehicles by more than 100,000 Yuan. Currently, the two models are priced at 339,900 Yuan and 369,900 Yuan; having a much lower price tag than the imported ones.
This was all possible because of the company’s decision to localizing the production. Tesla is currently expanding its Shanghai car factory and in October, it has also started exporting Model 3 vehicles to Europe. It is adding manufacturing capacity for EV chargers there and also expanding its sales and service network around China.
